The Wynford Green master plan at Don Mills and Eglinton

The Wynford Green master plan at Don Mills and Eglinton will add approximately 5,000 residential units in nine towers ranging in height from 15 to 44 storeys, three mid-rises of 8 and 9 storeys as well as several blocks of 3 and 4 storey townhouses.

Block 12

The first phase of this will be Block 12 which is located at the southwestern edge of the site. It will comprise of three residential towers of 32, 24 and 39 storeys located within the footprint of the former Parkin building which previously occupied the site.  To the north of the towers will be an 8 storey mid-rise and a single 4 storey block of townhouses.

Contemporary Design

On the south and north facades of the towers, black vertical metal fins extending the full height of the tower echo the narrow vertical windows of the retained heritage podium. In addition, east and west facades feature a contemporary design with recessed rectangular volumes clad in black metal. At the podium level, the solid brick portions of the heritage façade had simple punch windows incorporated into the design to allow for additional residential units.

Organically Shaped Volume

At the northwest corner of Block 12 is the organically shaped curving volumes of the mid-rise building.  A series of angled and rotated boxes that follow the curve of the building highlight the design.  The short face of these boxes is clad with dark grey metal panels while the long face is clad in white which creates the illusion of a colour change when travelling from the south to the east along Wynford Drive. Finally, a singular block of townhomes at the northeast corner with oversized gable elements completes the Crosstown Block 12 phase.
