Supertall Status Achieved: One Bloor West Tops 300 Metres in Toronto

A historic moment in Canadian architecture was reached as One Bloor West officially surpassed the 300-metre mark, qualifying it as the country’s first officially recognized “supertall” building, a term used globally to describe skyscrapers that rise above 300 metres in height.

The milestone, achieved on Tuesday, June 24th, marked a defining achievement for the tower rising at the iconic intersection of Bloor and Yonge in Toronto. Designed by the renowned international firm Foster + Partners, with CORE acting as the Architect of Record, the project is not only a landmark in height but also in design innovation. One Bloor West is now the tallest building in Canada to cross the threshold that places it among an elite class of skyscrapers worldwide.

To celebrate the tower’s milestone of reaching supertall status, developer Tridel held a special “rooftopping” event inside the building’s future ground-level retail space. As part of the celebration, Partner Earl Mark presented, and Principal Babak Eslahjou, Partner Elizabeth Vu-Campbell, Senior Associate Dena Mousapour and Project Coordinator Zina Mirjan were in attendance. A time capsule featuring memorable moments from the tower’s history was also unveiled.

As it rises into the clouds, One Bloor West will reach its full height of 308.6 metres upon completion, redefining Toronto’s skyline and marking a bold step forward for Canadian high-rise architecture, as well as a remarkable feat of engineering.
